At the recently concluded 2024 China Information and Communication Conference, the Space-Ground-Air Native Network Architecture and Key Technologies from the Fudan University Space Internet Institute was selected as one of the Top Ten Scientific and Technological Advances in Information and Communication for 2023.
The major scientific and technological advances selection activity in the field of information and communication, organized by the China Institute of Communications, aims to capture the forefront developments in China's information and communication sector, promote innovation in information and communication technology, and encourage scientists and technology professionals to continuously push the boundaries of science and technology in both breadth and depth.
Space-Ground-Air Native Network Architecture and Key Technologies
Breakthrough
The research team, with the Space-Ground-Air Native Network Architecture as the core, has addressed a series of challenges in the integration of satellite internet and terrestrial networks. Through innovative design of the cloud-native architecture, they successfully built a new network structure that is suitable for large-scale satellite systems, characterized by low power consumption, high efficiency, and low latency, thereby driving leapfrog development in satellite internet technology.
Key Technologies
The fast handover process proposed by the research team reduces the delay caused by satellite mobility to 20.87 milliseconds, far surpassing the 250 milliseconds latency specified in the current 5G NTN (Non-Terrestrial Network) standard protocol. In addition, the digital twin system Plotinus, based on a cloud-native microservices architecture, enables the simulation and optimization of complex satellite network topologies, providing both theoretical and technical support for the development of large-scale, low-power satellite communication capabilities.
