At the end of 2022, the institute began its establishment process. Over the past two years, it has successively formed strategic cooperation frameworks with leading industry enterprises and international research institutions, such as China Satellite Network, China Mobile, China Tower, China Telecom, Huawei, the Chinese Academy of Sciences’ Micro-Satellite Center, and the University of Surrey in the UK. Multiple joint laboratories and collaborative technology research projects have been established, with funding support reaching 50 million yuan. In November 2023, the institute was approved for the Ministry of Science and Technology’s intergovernmental key project, the “China-UK Integrated Sky-Ground Network Laboratory.” In July 2024, it established the “Location Computing Innovation Laboratory” in collaboration with China Tower.


Over the past five years, the team has published more than 500 research papers, including over 300 in top international conferences and more than 200 in authoritative international journals, with 10 best paper awards. These publications have been widely cited by well-known scholars domestically and internationally, contributing significantly to the institute’s academic influence. In recent years, the institute has undertaken over 20 key national R&D projects, National Natural Science Foundation key projects, and major Shanghai scientific and technological projects. It has also received several provincial and ministerial scientific and technological awards, including the first prize of the China Institute of Communications Science and Technology Award, the Shanghai Science and Technology Progress Award, the Ministry of Education Natural Science Award (second prize), and the Shanghai Natural Science Award (second prize).
