Professor Rahim Tafazolli is the only Regius Professor of Electronic Engineering at the University of Surrey, as well as a Professor of Mobile and Satellite Communications. He is the Director of the Institute for Communication Systems (ICS), the Director and Founder of the 5G Innovation Centre (5GIC).
For over 30 years, he has been actively engaged in research, publishing more than 1000 technical papers and editing two books. He has also served as an editor for Wiley’s 5G Reference Guide. Professor Tafazolli has acted as a technical and strategic advisor to several mobile communication companies and has recently served as a member of the UK Government’s Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) Telecoms Supply Chain Diversification Taskforce.
He is currently a member of the DCMS Advisory Council on Diversification. He represents the UK Space Agency (UKSA) as an expert delegate to the European Space Agency (ESA) on satellite 5G matters. In 2014, he served as a technical advisor to the then-Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, for the “London Infrastructure Investment Plan 2050.”
